This Similans competition is the latest and most ambitious fishing tournament the Island has to offer. This 3 day 2 night (or 4 night if you are a slow boat) extravaganza boasts 4 million Bahts worth of prizes and potential world records from the rich fishing grounds around the Similan Islands National Park. Prices for boat charter vary tremendously depending on the type of vessel you decide upon, although, for the "budget" fisherman Jimmy (www.fishinginphuket.com) has 3 or 4 "budget " boats with few of the comforts of the air-coned gin palaces for charted. He uses a large live-aboard dive boat as a mother-ship for evening meals a social get-together and a comfortable place to sleep with all mod-cons at very reasonable prices.
