Phuket International Sportfishing Tournament
24 - 26 November 2011

The P.I.S.T. competition is a 3 day event but unlike the Similan tournament you get to sleep in your own bed at night, being up bright and early every day for the starting gun, returning no later than 5pm each day. This makes P.I.S.T. the most "local" competition Phuket has to offer as boats rarely travel further than the Drop Off. All fish caught, apart from billfish, are submitted to the organizers who in turn use them to subsidize the final nights party, where there are nominal prizes for just about everything that can be caught. A reel good fishing comp. (excuse the pun).

The Thailand 2012 IGFA Sportfishing Tournament

The International Game Fishing Association Tournament to be held in the Similans is the latest and most ambitious fishing tournament the island has to offer. This 3 day 2 night (or 4 night if you are a slow boat) extravaganza boasts 4 million Bahts worth of prizes and potential world records from the rich fishing grounds around the Similan Islands National Park.

Prices for boat charter vary tremendously depending on the type of vessel you decide upon, although for the "budget" fisherman, we have 3 or 4 "budget " boats with few of the comforts of the air-conned gin palaces for charter. He uses a large live-aboard dive boat as a mother-ship for evening meals, a social get-together and a comfortable place to sleep with all mod cons at very reasonable prices.
